About the Book

One of my nurse practitioners smiles whenever a new patient asks that question. She tells them, “He may be a guy, but he thinks like a woman!”

I may not have the ability to physically experience what a woman goes through during menopause, however I have had over 25 years of experience treating women in menopause and perimenopause, and my interest has always been in finding solutions that work. The benefit of my gender is that I can’t jump to conclusions about what a woman is experiencing. I have to listen to her needs and work with her to find the best available path or paths that will address all her physical, mental and spiritual needs.

Having practiced in all areas of OB/GYN for over 25 years with a special interest in menopause and perimenopause, I believe in the integrative approach — a blend of traditional and natural medicine, and this is the focus of The Perfect Menopause: 7 Steps to the Best Time of Your Life. When used properly, natural, medicinal, and hormonal solutions can all work, and they are all valid therapeutic options that every woman owes to herself to explore thoroughly.

And as for my qualifications, I am a board-certified obstetrician gynecologist, a certified menopause practitioner, and a certified hypnotherapist known for my knowledge and expertise in natural therapies as well as hormonal therapies.  I am a clinical professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. I write and lecture nationally on the topics of menopause, perimenopause, and other hormone problems. And I am the director of the Rochester Women's Midlife Health and Menopause Center. I received my PhD in organic chemistry at Purdue University , and received my MD from New York Medical College. I trained as an obstetrician gynecologist at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.

If you want to find out more about my treatment philosophies and answers to some of your menopause questions, please take a moment to watch or listen to one of the interviews I’ve done recently by clicking on one of the links here.
